What is a Mommy Minute?

A "Mommy Minute" is a break in the day that a Mother uses to renew and rejuvenate herself.  Mommy Minutes can be taken alone or with others.  They can stand alone as a single minute or can be clustered with other Mommy Minutes for a longer break.

Some examples include:

1. Eat some chocolate.
2. Smell a rose.
3. Relax in a hammock.
4. Watch a child sleep.
5. Hold hands with your husband.

A Mommy Minute is also any time-saver for a Mother. Do you have an example of a Mommy Minute that you would like to share with others?  This is the place to do just that!  It can be a suggestion for a way to relax, or it can be a time-saver that you have discovered.  Just send us an email at idea@mommyminutes.net, and we will put it on this page - and we will give you credit, too (if you don't mind)!

Taking a Mommy Minute

I like to go outside after the kids are in bed and look for constellations.

Reading my favorite magazine.

When I eat chocolate, I make sure I savor it.  Good chocolate should slowly melt in your mouth.  As it melts, use your tongue to swirl it around, so you can enjoy all the flavors.  Only when you are completely done should you take another bite.  Chocolate should not be chewed, as that can release some of the more bitter flavors.  It takes longer to eat, so you get fewer calories, too!

Saving a Mommy Minute

After dinner, the whole family helps to clear the table.

I use notebooks to organize everything - one each for schoolwork, kids' certificates, recipes, spiritual notes, holiday ideas, etc.  Jenni I.

I make meal plans before I go to the grocery store.  It makes shopping faster and easier.  Jenni I.

If you organize clothes for an entire week, it will make mornings much easier!  I help my kids pick outfits over the weekend for the following week.  Outfits are already matched together, and since the kids are involved, they are happy with the choices.  Julie V.

Put similar toys in their own bins - blocks in one, train pieces in another, etc.  Kids learn to sort objects, and it makes it easier at clean up time.  Julie V.

I also only let my kids play with lots-of-pieces-toys (like Legos and blocks) one at a time.  I keep the bins up high, and they have to clean up one before they can have another.  Jenni I.
